Etterbeek is a multicultural and vibrant neighbourhood, the gateway to the European Quarter. Wooly set up shop here to serve both the local residents and the workers from the nearby EU institutions. Since we opened, the pastel de nata has become a morning staple around the Cinquantenaire.
The Wooly Craft
At Wooly Etterbeek, every pastel de nata is prepared according to the traditional recipe brought from Portugal: hand-worked puff pastry, custard cream flavoured with cinnamon and lemon, baked at high temperature to achieve that signature contrast between crispy and creamy. The same artisanal expertise is found in all four of our Brussels shops, from Waterloo to Uccle via Woluwe-Saint-Pierre.

A Portuguese bakery in Etterbeek
The Rue des Tongres 16 shop sits on a shopping street in Etterbeek, between Place Saint-Pierre and the Cinquantenaire park. It is a mixed district of offices and homes, where local residents meet people working in the nearby European institutions. That is why this shop opens at 8am on weekdays, the earliest of our four addresses.
Getting here is easy: Merode metro station, on lines 1 and 5, is a five minute walk away; tram 81 stops at Merode and Cinquantenaire; buses 34, 36 and 80 also serve the area. By car, Rue des Tongres is paid parking during the day, like most streets around the Cinquantenaire, and spaces free up mainly in the early morning and late afternoon.
The Cinquantenaire park is a few hundred metres away, and many customers leave with a box of pasteis de nata for the lawn or for the office. The shop is open seven days a week, Sunday included, until 8.30pm.
